the consistency of tastes

I just realized what three of my favorite pieces of art have in common (besides being predictably favorites). Can you figure it out?

The Persistence of Memory (Salvador Dalí)

The Treachery of Images (René Magritte)

Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (Pieter Bruegel)

that’s right: “the” and “of” in their titles. obviously.

One Response to the consistency of tastes

  1. Adam says:

When I taught high school on my island I found myself at a loss for what to talk about one day. I’m not sure why, buy I started telling the kids the story of Icarus. They were completely mesmerized. So much so, that I ended up telling them different myths every week. It was their favorite part of the class and by the end of the year they knew all about Midas and Narcissus and The Minotaur. I think they would have liked this picture too.
