“After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” – Aldous Huxley, in essay “The Rest Is Silence”
I found that quote from Huxley in college—maybe even in high school—and spent a while scouring the internet trying to track down where exactly he said that. All these years later, thanks to Brain Pickings, now I finally know (and that pun of a essay title was worth the wait…). See Brain Pickings’ “Great Writers on the Power of Music” for some other writers’ thoughts on music.
